Lead Writer – The Eco Experts

The Role

As Lead Writer of The Eco Experts, you will be an accomplished and confident writer, with significant experience producing content that performs well across standard industry metrics

You will also:

Work closely with the Editor and Content Manager to identify new areas of opportunity for content in multiple formats on an ongoing basis, including:

– news/topical articles;

– feature articles, guides and product reviews;

– email newsletters, and;

– videos.

Be comfortable in pitching and presenting ideas and confident in establishing and implementing best-practices and new ways of working.
Help maintain a consistent tone of voice for the brand.
Be passionate about green technology providing our audience with the information they need to help them make long-term investment decisions for their homes that will not only save them money, but also empower them to switch to a more sustainable lifestyle.
Have a good working knowledge of Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines and be able to help grow a network of industry experts and consumers who will add experience and expertise to our content.
Be ambitious, and strive to become a trusted industry expert in your field, earning authority and trust as a writer – stepping in to act as a spokesperson for the brand when required.
Be commercially astute and able to balance editorial needs with the commercial requirements of The Eco Experts brand.
Be able to assist with editing duties and track content performance, providing constructive feedback and mentorship to more junior writers and freelancers on the team.
Experience working in a consumer newsroom and a good knowledge of WordPress is an advantage.

Our Team

The Brands team is responsible for growing the organic traffic of brands such as The Eco Experts, Expert Market, Startups, Tech.co and Website Builder Expert.

The department consists of:

Content team – responsible for creating and delivering a high-quality content strategy that meets organic traffic and conversion targets, and delivers a trusted and unique brand experience.
Audience team – responsible for delivering audience development strategies that grow the reach and visibility of MVF’s brands. The team comprises SEO and Campaigns (link acquisition) teams.
The Insight team – responsible for conducting in-depth research into key subject areas and target audiences, with the aim of building brand authority and trustworthiness as well as key client relationships.

Responsibilities:

Produce engaging, high-quality news, long-form articles and pieces to camera video to deadline that build trust with our audience and help users make informed decisions.
Develop knowledge and expertise across a range of products and services with the aim of generating high-quality content.
Write new product, service and company reviews, how-to guides, informational and feature content with the aim of generating targeted, high-quality website traffic
Update existing articles to improve overall quality and ensure the information on site is up- to-date, fresh and relevant.
Commission freelance writers and edit work created by others where required to ensure factual accuracy and good English.
Write news and features articles that attract traffic to the website and earn links from other authoritative websites when required.
Collaborate with other teams (including Campaigns, Social Media, PR & SEO) to build brand awareness, visibility and authority.
Pitch ideas to the Editor that will help the brand achieve one or more of the brand’s goals.
Continually seek to raise quality standards in your own content and that produced by others to better serve our audience and clients.
Provide other writers and freelancers with clear and constructive feedback to help them develop.
Run workshops or development sessions for others in the content team when required to do so.
Be organised and motivated to hit KPIs, and proactively check that you are on track.

What Success Looks Like:

Generate and manage a pipeline of high-quality content for publication with sign-off from the Editor/Content Manager.
Work with the Editor and Content Manager to help direct new working methods and writing skills, and deploy them to the wider publishing team.
Developed knowledge, expertise and authority in a range of product and service categories.
Be a mentor for a writer within MVF, and have regular catch-ups with them to hone their skills.
Write content that builds the brand, attracts a relevant audience, and connects customers with our commercial partners.
Hits and exceeds Lead Writer volume and quality KPIs.
